Expelled BJP leader who insulted Mayawati arrested from Buxar, Bihar
Dayashankar Singh, who had said the BSP chief was 'worse than a prostitute', had been absconding since the party filed a case against him for his remarks.
Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dayashankar Singh was arrested from Buxar, Bihar, on Friday, ANI reported. Singh had been absconding since the Bahujan Samaj Party filed a case against him for his derogatory remarks against party chief Mayawati.
A Lucknow court had ordered a non-bailable warrant against the former vice president of BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit, after he said Mayawati was "worse than a prostitute" when it came to selling party tickets. He was suspended from the BJP for six years.
Singh was photographed in Deoghar, Jharkhand, on July 24. He had been untraceable when the police went to his house to arrest him, a day after he made the statement about Mayawati. His remarks had triggered protests among BSP workers who had demanded his arrest.
However, Singh’s wife Swati had alleged that BSP members were harassing her and her 12-year-old daughter after the incident. An FIR was also filed against Mayawati, and three other party leaders for allegedly making "inflammatory" speeches about Singh last week.
