Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja pays Rs 20,000 fine for photo with lions in Gir sanctuary
The inquiry report has not been filed yet, but authorities said action will also be taken against the forest department staff seen in the image, if recommended.
Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's family paid a fine of Rs 20,000 that was imposed on him for taking a selfie with lions at the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, PTI reported. The act is illegal as visitors in the sanctuary are prohibited from getting off their vehicles during the safari. Gujarat forest department officials said since Jadeja is abroad, a family member paid the fine.
Chief Conservator of Forests (Junagadh) AP Singh ordered an inquiry after Jadeja took the selfie and uploaded it online on June 17. The inquiry report has not been filed yet. In the selfie, a forest department staff was also seen in the background. Singh said, "The inquiry report will be sent to higher authorities after we finalise it. Action against the forest staff will be taken based on the findings of the report."
