AAP leader Kartar Singh has hidden assets worth Rs 130 crore, I-T raids reportedly found
The search and seizure operations have purportedly revealed that the Chattarpur MLA has unaccounted for farmhouses and proxy-owned properties.
Income Tax department officials have reportedly found documents revealing undeclared assets worth more than Rs 130 crore during raids at Aam Aadmi Party legislator Kartar Singh Tanwar's homes and offices, reported NDTV. During the swoop carried out last month, the investigators discovered that the 54-year-old property dealer has unaccounted for farmhouses and proxy-owned properties, according to The Times of India.
Ahead of the 2015 Assembly polls, the Chattarpur MLA declared his total assets worth Rs 17.65 crore to the Election Commission. He reportedly lives in a 2.6-acre farmhouse in South Delhi, but he could not explain how much he paid for the property. The department is looking into a few assets owned by the politician, including a construction company, its cross-holdings and transactions worth Rs 7 crore. PTI reported the I-T sleuths' findings on Tuesday.
The raids were carried out on July 27. At the time of the raid, party leader Sanjay Singh criticised the Narendra Modi government for targeting AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his associates. Singh took to Twitter and said, "Just in: Income Tax raid on Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar. Modiji had unleashed Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Delhi Police earlier, now I-T too, Aam Aadmi Party won't bow down, won't bend."
