Monsoon Session ends: 13 Bills passed in the Lok Sabha, 14 in the Rajya Sabha
The Centre hailed the GST Bill as the highlight, and the 20 sittings also saw all members unanimously passing a resolution on restoring peace in Kashmir.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament ended on Friday, with all members unanimously passing a resolution on restoring peace in Kashmir. Rajya Sabha Chairperson Hamid Ansari termed the 20-sitting session "highly productive", PTI reported.
The key decisions taken during the session included the passing of the Goods and Services Tax Bill. While the Lower House passed 13 Bills, the Upper House gave its assent to 14 proposed laws. Both the Houses debated on Dalit atrocities and other issues of "national concern", the Centre said.
However, the 24-day Monsoon Session also had its share of controversies, with Aam Admi Party leader Bhagwant Mann live-streaming a video from Parliament and consequently being suspended from attending the Lok Sabha sessions. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam member Sasikala Pushpa for getting into a fight with a fellow Parliamentarian.
In total, the Rajya Sabha spent more than 112 hours in session. The Lok Sabha saw more adjournments, but made up for this by working an extra 18 hours beyond the stipulated time. The Lower House spent a total of 121 hours in session, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said.
