Donald Trump expresses regret for saying ‘the wrong thing’
The Republican Party nominee for the United States Presidency, however, said that he would continue to tell his supporters ‘the truth’.
Republican nominee for United States president Donald Trump on Thursday night expressed regret for sometimes saying “the wrong thing”. CNN reported that Trump, whose campaign has consistently defended his controversial remarks on a whole host of issues, said he regretted having made particular statements, “particularly where it may have caused personal pain”.
“Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words,” the businessman said while reading from a prepared speech at a campaign rally. “Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues,” Trump said. However, he added that he would continue to tell his supporters “the truth”.
Trump’s remarks came a day after the his campaign underwent a re-organisation at its top levels, with Breitbart News chairperson Stephen Bannon being appointed its chief executive and Kellyanne Conway its manager. In the past, the Republican nominee has been criticised with his remarks on current US President Barack Obama, Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and the family of a US soldier who died while fighting in Iraq, among others.
