Maggi noodles gained 57% of market share in June, in top position nine months after re-launch
The popular snack was re-introduced with new varieties and renewed branding practices after the ban on the product, for excessive lead content, was lifted.
Nestle's Maggi instant noodles has regained its top position in India with 57.1% of the noodles market share in June, nine months after its re-launch. The Food and Safety Standards Authority of India had banned the popular snack across the country on charges of excessive lead content in the product.
After its re-introduction in November 2015, the launch of four new varieties and with aggressive marketing practices, Maggi won back the market steadily. Nestle said in a statement earlier this month that "favourable comparables" had helped turn growth positive in India in June. "We regained a leading market share position. India kept gaining momentum one year after the start of the withdrawal of Maggi noodles," the global food giant said, according to PTI.
The Bombay High Court had banned the Maggi snack in June last year after "unsafe and hazardous" levels of lead was found after testing. The court lifted the ban in October, after which Nestle launched a host of products to stay ahead of competition.
