At least 24 people died after an explosion at a factory on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday. More than 50 people were injured after a boiler burst at the packaging factory, reported Dhaka Tribune. The explosion was followed by a massive fire and the partial collapse of the three-storey structure, according to the report.

Seven of the victims worked as security personnel at the factory, while several others were employees. Around 100 people were working inside the building at the time of the explosion. The cause of the incident is being investigated, but remains unknown so far. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner SM Alam told Dhaka Tribune that a five-member commission was formed to investigate the accident.

Syed Mokbul Hossain, the owner of the Tampaco Foils factory, reportedly told local media that he was not sure when the boiler was last inspected.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her grief at the deaths and injuries caused by the incident. The government also announced compensation of one lakh takas (around Rs 85,000) for the families of victims.
