Popular messaging service WhatsApp has enabled a feature allowing users to directly tag one another in group conversations, NDTV reported on Tuesday. The feature works in the same way as mentions on Facebook and Twitter do, the report said. Users will have to add a ‘@’ sign in the messaging window after which a list comprising all the users in that particular conversation will appear. They can select the user they wish to mention. The feature is currently available for users of WhatsApp’s iOS and Android applications.

The server-side update to enable the feature comes just days after it introduced Snapchat-like doodling options and selfie flash on the Beta version of its Android application. The instant messaging service is also working on developing a video calling feature and support for sharing GIF files. Both the features are expected to be made available to users soon. NDTV reported that the Facebook-owned group’s terms of service now include details on businesses communicating with general users as well.
