SC upholds former Haryana DGP's conviction for molesting Ruchika Girhotra, reduces sentence
His jail term for sexually assaulting the 14-year-old was reduced from 18 months to the six months he has already served.
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the conviction of former Haryana director general of police SPS Rathore in connection with the molestation of a minor girl in 1990. However, his jail term was reduced from 18 months to the six months Rathore has already served in prison.
Rathore has been convicted for molesting Ruchika Girhotra, a tennis player who was then 14 years old. He was was given a six-month sentence in 2009, which was increased to 18 months in jail in 2010 based on an appeal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. However, he was granted bail in the case the same day he was sentenced.
Girhotra committed suicide three years after the incident, in December 1993.
