A phone manufactured by Samsung Electronics caught fire while lying in an overhead bin on board an IndiGo flight to Chennai on Friday, The Hindu reported. The crew saw smoke coming out of the Galaxy Note 2 handset, which led the pilots to perform an emergency landing, according to Times Now. There were 182 passengers on board the plane.

Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said they had asked the airline to submit the phone to it for further investigation into the incident. A DGCA spokesperson said they had also summoned officials from Samsung on Monday to discuss the matter.

The company has been undertaking a global recall of its Galaxy Note7 handsets after reports of the device bursting into flames surfaced. The DGCA had earlier issued an advisory asking fliers not to use or charge the Note7 on board an aircraft over fears that it might explode. The regulator had also asked people not to put the phone in checked baggage.
