Former Karnataka Minister for Development and Town Planning KJ George was reinducted into the Cabinet on Monday after the Crime Investigation Department gave him a clean chit in connection with the suicide of a deputy superintendent of police. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Vajubhai Vala at the Raj Bhavan. George [extreme right in picture above] told ANI, "I am grateful and will take this opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka."

George had resigned from his post on July 18 after a court in Madikeri, Karnataka, ordered a First Information Report against him in the case. The court had directed the police to lodge a complaint after Deputy Superintendent of Police MK Ganapthy had named George, his son and other senior officers in his suicide note. Preliminary investigations into the case revealed that a nexus between state political leaders and senior police officers pushed him to kill himself.

Before his suicide on July 7, Ganapathy had told a local TV channel that if anything happened to him, the Congress minister, Lokayukta Inspector General of Police Pranab Mohanty and Additional Deputy General of Police (Intelligence) AM Prasad would be responsible.
