Samajwadi Party candidate Aman Mani Tripathi has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife who died in a car crash. Though Tripathi was with his wife Sara during the accident, he did not sustain any injuries, raising suspicion about the incident.

The deceased woman’s mother had lodged a First Information Report against Tripathi and his family. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case, made the arrest on Friday. Investigators said he would be produced before a court soon. The couple got married in 2013. Tripathi’s parents were reportedly against the marriage.

He has been arrested before as well, in connection with a kidnapping case in 2015. Tripathi is the son of former Uttar Pradesh minister Amar Mani, who is in prison for his involvement in the murder of a Lucknow poet Madhumita Shukla. Tripathi’s mother and Amar Mani’s wife was also involved in the conspiracy. Tripathi will be contesting the state Assembly elections in 2017 as a candidate of the ruling party from Nautanwa constituency in Maharajganj.
