Samajwadi Party candidate Aman Mani Tripathi has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife who died in a car crash. Though Tripathi was with his wife Sara during the accident, he did not sustain any injuries, raising suspicion about the incident.
The deceased woman’s mother had lodged a First Information Report against Tripathi and his family. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case, made the arrest on Friday. Investigators said he would be produced before a court soon. The couple got married in 2013. Tripathi’s parents were reportedly against the marriage.
He has been arrested before as well, in connection with a kidnapping case in 2015. Tripathi is the son of former Uttar Pradesh minister Amar Mani, who is in prison for his involvement in the murder of a Lucknow poet Madhumita Shukla. Tripathi’s mother and Amar Mani’s wife was also involved in the conspiracy. Tripathi will be contesting the state Assembly elections in 2017 as a candidate of the ruling party from Nautanwa constituency in Maharajganj. After his name was declared as part of the ruling’s party’s candidate list in October, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had said that he was not informed about the list, reported dna.
