Chennai: DMK cadres create ruckus as MDMK leader Vaiko comes to meet Karunanidhi
They hurled slippers and pelted stones at his car, forcing the leader to leave the hospital premises without meeting the former chief minister.
Cadres of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam created a ruckus on Saturday evening when Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazagham General Secretary Vaiko went to meet M Karunaidhi in Kaveri Hospital in Chennai, reported ANI. They hurled slippers and pelted stones at his car, forcing the leader to leave the premises without meeting the DMK chief.
Later, DMK leader and Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin expressed his regret and urged cadres not to indulge in such activity. However, MDMK spokesperson Sathya said it was a deliberate act. Earlier in the day, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the former chief minister.
Karunanidhi was admitted to the hospital on December 15 after he complained of breathing problems caused by a throat and lung infection. This is the second time this month that the DMK chief has been admitted to hospital. On December 1, he was admitted for nutritional treatment and hydration. He was discharged on December 7.
While the DMK chief has not been seen in public for days since October when he developed a drug-related allergy, the party on December 10 said he would chair its general council meeting, where Stalin is expected to be made the party’s working president.
