Key suspect in murder of guard at Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate dies in accident
A second suspect was also in a separate car accident, but survived, though his wife and child died.
Two key suspects in the murder of a guard at former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate were involved in separate road accidents on Friday and Saturday. One suspect, C Kanagaraj, died on Friday night, The Hindu reported.
According to the report, he was travelling along the Salem-Ulundurpet highway on his bike, on his way to see a relative. He was said to have been drinking before that. His bike got into an accident with a car, and he sustained severe injuries. He was declared dead when he was taken to the government hospital in Attur. Kanagaraj was once Jayalalithaa’s driver, PTI reported.
The second suspect KV Sayan, was in travelling in a car with his family to Thrissur when his vehicle was involved in an accident with a truck. The accident took place around 5.30 am on Saturday. Sayan’s condition is critical, while his wife and five year old daughter died at the accident spot. It remains unclear whether both accidents were in fact accidents at all.
On April 24, a security guard at Jayalalithaa’s massive estate had been killed during a burglary. Some reports suggested that a few documents had gone missing that night. The estate’s current ownership remains unclear, since Jayalalithaa had not left a will and because the property figures in a disproportionate assets case in which her longtime friend VK Sasikala was convicted earlier this year.
