The Dubai city-state government announced the launch of a Microsoft-created typeface called “Dubai font”. Around 100 million Office 365 users worldwide will have access to the font in 23 languages, AFP reported. Crown prince Hamdan bin Mohammed al-Maktoum asked government institutions to incorporate the font in official correspondence.

Developed in Latin and Arabic script, the Hamdan-led executive council of Dubai said the font was part of the city-state’s aim to “become a regional and global leader in innovation”. “It is the first font to be developed by a city and to carry its name,” council secretary general Abdulla al-Shaiban told reporters.

The emirate has the world’s tallest tower and the largest shopping mall in the Middle East. It plans on promoting itself as the “world’s happiest city” after its appointment of a happiness minister.
