AAP’s Amanatullah Khan resigns from core committee as party members demand his expulsion
Khan had alleged that senior leader Kumar Vishwas tried to overthrow party chief Arvind Kejriwal after their loss in the Delhi civic body polls.
Aam Aadmi Party legislator Amanatullah Khan resigned from the party’s political affairs committee late on Monday, after other workers had demanded his expulsion. Khan had alleged that party leader Kumar Vishwas was trying to overthrow AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal after their loss in the Delhi civic polls. The PAC is the highest decision making body in the party.
However, Khan has maintained his allegations against Vishwas.
Several party members had written separately to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking that the Okhla MP be sacked. Minister for Environment and Food Imran Hussain had tweeted, “Amanatullah has lost his mental balance.” Another legislator Alka Lamba had said, “If he (Khan) has proof, then he should present it to the political affairs committee. The charges that he has levelled are serious and if he fails to produce any evidence to back them up, then he should be expelled from the party,” The Times of India had reported.
Vishwas had also disagreed with Kejriwal’s recent allegations that electronic voting machines had been rigged, leading to the AAP’s massive defeat in the MCD polls. Besides Vishwas, other leaders like Bhagwant Mann had also differed with Kejriwal on the matter. Amanatullah Khan had alleged that Vishwas was in league with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and trying to drive a wedge into the AAP.
Khan has been involved in several controversies before this. He had been questioned in an alleged scam in the Delhi Waqf Board, and his brother-in-law’s wife had filed a case of harassment against him last year. Khan had denied all the allegations.
