At least five people sustained minor injuries when the glass of an IndiGo bus used to transfer passengers was shattered on Friday evening. The accident took place after a jet blast from a SpiceJet flight that was approaching a parking bay at the Delhi airport, ANI reported. The five injured passengers were taken to the airport clinic for treatment.

SpiceJet, in a statement, said it was too early to attribute the cause of the incident to the jet blast from its aircraft that was taxiing at the Delhi airport. “It is also too early to apportion responsibility as the pilots were following normal procedures,” SpiceJet’s statment said. “In any case we have informed the regulator and the airline is closely cooperating with all assistance. There was no damage to the window panes of any aircraft.”

In a statement, IndiGo said its Coach number 34 was parked at Bay 17 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for passengers to board on flight 6E-191 at 4.50 pm on Friday for boarding of passengers. “At the same time, an arriving aircraft of SpiceJet SG-253 took a turn to park at the allocated bay,” the statement read, according to PTI. The right front window of the coach broke from the impact of the jet blast from [the] SpiceJet flight, it added.

A jet blast refers to a strong force of hot air that the engines of aircraft release during or before take-off. “The flight departed for Mumbai after ensuring all passengers had been given assistance,” the airline said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has initiated an investigation into the incident.
