India captain Mithali Raj on Wednesday surpassed England cricketer Charlotte Edwards’ record for the most runs in women’s One-Day International cricket. She broke the record during the ICC Women’s World Cup match against Australia at the County Ground in Bristol.

Raj was just 33 runs short of Edwards’ 5,992 before the game began. Not only did she go past the Englishwoman’s world record, she also became the first ever woman to score 6,000 runs in one-day cricket.

Edwards made the 5,992-run record in 191 matches with an average of 38.16. Raj took 183 matches to reach this stage. She has scored 6,027 runs at an average of 51.95 with five hundreds and 49 half centuries in her ODI career, so far.

Raj made her debut in 1999 against Ireland.
