Constitution under siege, Meira Kumar as President will steer us through this crisis: Sonia Gandhi
The Congress President appealed to the Opposition not to let India become hostage to those who wish to ‘impose upon it a narrow minded, divisive vision’.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday appealed to Opposition parties ahead of Monday’s Presidential election not to let India become hostage to those who wish to “impose upon it narrow minded, divisive and communal vision”, reported ANI. At a meeting of Opposition parties, the Congress leader said the President and Vice-President are elected to uphold the Constitution and the law, and claimed that “unfortunately, both are under siege today.”
“Together, Meiraji and Gopalkrishnaji will be the best possible President and Vice President to steer society through the crisis that has beset our country,” the Congress chief said while pitching for Opposition presidential candidate Meira Kumar and vice-presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi said that even though the numbers may be against the Opposition candidates in Monday’s election, the “battle must be fought and fought hard.”
Earlier, ANI had reported that the Janata Dal (United) would not attend the Opposition all-party meet.
