The Patna Police arrested a man for allegedly killing a woman after she resisted a sexual assault, Hindustan Times reported on Friday. Dheeraj Kumar Paswan has admitted to the crime during interrogation, according to ANI. The second accused in the case is at large.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Wednesday when the 35-year-old woman left her home to defecate in a field in Baliyavan village in Naubatpur police station area. The men, Dheeraj Kumar Paswan and Dharmendra Paswan, allegedly tried to overpower her to rape her, The Indian Express reported. However, when the woman resisted, they allegedly raped her with a rod.

“The woman managed to walk back to her home and was brought to the police station from where we sent her to Patna Medical College and Hospital,” Premraj Chouhan, officer in charge of Naubatpur police station, told The Indian Express. “She died during treatment on Thursday.”

Post-mortem showed the woman had died of excessive bleeding and internal injuries, ANI reported. The National Commission for Women on Friday sought a detailed report from the Bihar police, which has formed a Special Investigation Team to inquire into the case, The Indian Express reported.
