Several organisations of Kashmiri Pandits met Dineshwar Sharma, the Centre’s interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday and sought a fresh inquiry into the killing of hundreds of pandits in the Valley and their subsequent exodus in the 1990s, PTI reported.

Sharma arrived in Jammu on Thursday for the second leg of his five-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to hold dialogues with the stakeholders in the state. He earlier held meetings in Srinagar.

The representatives of the organisations also sought the setting up of an institutional mechanism for the community’s welfare. “The displaced Kashmiri Pandits are the biggest stakeholders in their rehabilitation in Kashmir,” the organisations said in a joint memorandum that they submitted to Sharma. “Therefore, it is they who should have the maximum say in deciding modalities of return and the methodology.”

The delegation included leaders from All India Kashmiri Samaj, All India Kashmir Pandit Conference, Jammu and Kashmir National Front, Vichar Manch and Zeishtadevi Prabandik Committee.
