Telangana: Air force aircraft crashes in Siddipet, pilot escapes unhurt
The fighter jet had attempted an emergency landing but failed.
An Indian Air Force trainer aircraft crashed in Telangana’s Siddipet district on Friday, ANI reported. The woman who was piloting the aircraft ejected before it crashed. No one was killed or injured in the incident.
The Kiran fighter jet had taken off from the Hakimpet Air Force Station. The aircraft had attempted an emergency landing but failed, and the cause of the crash is not known yet.
“Sensing the danger, the pilot immediately ejected out of the aircraft and landed in the fields,” Defence Ministry Spokesperson G Surendra Babu told the Hindustan Times. “The aircraft burst into flames and crashed into the fields. The engine was totally burnt and parts of the jet were strewn around in the area.”
The pilot was identified as Rashi Rahen. She sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a hospital in Siddipet.
The Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the accident.
