Iraq: 17 feared dead in attack in southeast Baghdad, Islamic State claims responsibility
Two security personnel were also wounded in the attack.
Seventeen people were feared dead and 28 injured after two attackers began firing at them in southeast Baghdad in Iraq on Monday, Reuters reported. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
One of the attackers blew himself up and the other was killed by security forces, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said, without providing official casualty figures. A police official, however, told AFP that the number of attackers could have been higher. He said five suicide bombers had attacked the marketplace, of which the police killed three and two blew themselves up.
The attack also wounded two security personnel.
The Islamic State claimed that it was targeting Iran-backed Shia militas, the Popular Mobilisation Forces, and had killed 35 of them in the attack.
