A Delhi court on Monday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party legislator Prakash Jarwal in a molestation case filed against him in 2017, PTI reported. Jarwal is one of the two AAP lawmakers accused of assaulting Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February.

The MLA was booked for allegedly assaulting a 53-year-old woman in South East Delhi’s Sangam Vihar in July 2017. The complainant had told the police that Jarwal and his supporters touched her inappropriately in her house. In June 2016, another woman had accused Jarwal of touching her inappropriately in the city’s Greater Kailash area. Jarwal has denied all the charges.

Jarwal’s counsel Vaibhav Trivedi moved the court claiming that a false case was filed against the MLA as the complainant wanted to extort money. Jarwal will join investigation when necessary, Trivedi told the court.

Observing that the investigation was complete and the police had filed a chargesheet without arresting Jarwal, the court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and a surety of like amount.

The chargesheet was filed on February 22 under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
