‘Let results stand’: BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar urges Centre not to hold CBSE exams again
The Parent-Teacher Association in Mumbai also said there should be no re-test as the Class 10 mathematics question paper was not leaked in their region.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar urged the Centre on Friday not to hold retests for the Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics exams over leaked question papers. He said the “only correct thing” to do now was to identify the few students who had benefited from the leak and cancel their papers.
Handwritten copies of question papers for the Class 12 economics exam on Monday and the Class 10 mathematics exam on Wednesday had been leaked at least a day before they were to be held. The Central Board of Secondary Education has said students will have to appear for the exam again, but has not announced the dates yet.
Addressing Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Twitter, Chandrasekhar said the government should not “subject students and parents to re-exams”.
“Let results stand,” the Rajya Sabha MP said. “Instead investigate [and] identify those few that benefited from leaked papers [and] cancel their results only! That’s the only correct thing to do now!”
The Central Board of Secondary Education “exists for school children and parents, and must hold itself accountable,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Parent-Teacher Association in Mumbai also asked the Centre on Friday not to conduct a re-examination for Class 10 students as the question paper was not leaked in their region, ANI reported. The members of the parent-teacher body sent a letter to Javadekar with the request.
Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia wrote to Javadekar, requesting him to “immediately convene a day-long brainstorming session” of all education ministers to ensure such incidents do not happen again. “This is an issue on which we need to move beyond party politics,” he said.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray asked parents not to let their children take the examination again. “It’s the failure of the government,” he told ANI. “Without accepting it, why do they want students to re-appear for the exam? I request the parents throughout the country, don’t let your child sit for re-examination in any condition.”
Meanwhile, several students on Friday staged demonstrations outside the CBSE’s headquarters in Delhi against the paper leaks and re-examination. Congress’ Delhi unit and its student body, the National Students’ Union of India, also joined the protests. Students also protested in Ludhiana in Punjab and in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
