Delhi: Jeweller commits suicide by jumping off DRI office after raids at his premises
In the last two days, officials seized items worth Rs 13 crore, including 41 kg of foreign-marked gold, 213 kg of silver bullion and Rs 48 lakh in cash.
A jeweller from Delhi committed suicide by jumping off the sixth floor of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence building on Wednesday, PTI reported. Gaurav Gupta was being investigated in connection with alleged smuggling of gold.
The incident took place around noon when Gupta was waiting in the visitors’ room. He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
This comes as officers have been searching his properties. Over the last two days, they have seized items worth Rs 13 crore, including 41 kg of foreign-marked gold, 213 kg of silver bullion and Rs 48 lakh in cash. Gupta was neither summoned nor arrested, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said.
Gupta’s wife has alleged that he was murdered by the DRI officials, and asked the police to take action against them.
