Eight people were feared dead on Sunday after a boat they were travelling in capsized in the Kosi river in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district. Seven passengers were rescued, ANI reported.

The incident took place around 3.30 pm in Navgachhiya locality of the district when the group was returning from a wedding in Purnea district, Hindustan reported. Initial reports said the boat was overloaded and lost its balance in heavy winds. The groom was also reportedly on the boat, but he was rescued.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force reached the spot to look for missing passengers.

The seven people who were rescued were in a serious condition, police told the news agency UNI. Most of the passengers were children.
