Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday compared Hindu mythological sage Narad to search engine Google, and claimed that the former had possessed as much information as the online platform, The Indian Express reported. Rupani was speaking at a Devrshi Narad Jayanti event organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Vishwa Samvad Kendra in Ahmedabad.

“This is relevant in today’s time that Narad was a man of information,” Rupani was quoted as saying. “He had information of the whole world and he acted on this information. Collecting information was his dharma for the betterment of the humankind, and it is very much required. Google is the source of information just like Narad, because he knew everything happening in the world.”

Rupani quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cite the importance of a neutral media in a democracy. The chief minister said the media can comment on a government’s functioning but it has to be “neutral and authentic”.

Rupani’s statements come days after Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s said that internet and satellites existed in the days of the Mahabharata. Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy had also agreed with Deb.
