Strong winds and rain are likely to hit Delhi and nearby districts of Haryana on Wednesday evening, the India Meteorological Department said. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh, the weather bureau said in its afternoon update.

The sky in Delhi and the National Capital Region was cloudy in the afternoon. Hailstorms are likely in some parts of Haryana, ANI reported, quoting the Met department.

The weather agency has predicted thunderstorms with squall in 12 states in eastern and North East India. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely in south Indian states as well.

The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the season’s average.

On Tuesday, dust storms, rain and thunder had hit parts of northern India. At least 100 animals died in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, while trees were uprooted in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla. Moderate to light rains occurred across Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana while a high-velocity dust storm hit parts of Delhi. Trees and electricity poles were uprooted and there were reports of power outages.
