Assam: Five killed in floods, landslides across seven districts
The floods have damaged 1,367 hectares of crops in the state.
Five people have been killed in floods and landslides in Assam while 370 villages in seven districts have been inundated, reported The Shillong Times on Thursday.
Hojai, Cachar, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong (East) and West Karbi Anglong districts are the worst affected. While one person was killed in a flood in Golaghat on Thursday, at least four people lost their lives due to landslides in Dima Hasao district, reported The Assam Tribune.
The floods have affected over 1.66 lakh residents in the state and damaged 1,367 hectares of crops, reported Hindustan Times. Over 36,000 displaced people are residing in 116 relief camps.
The Dhansiri river (South) in Golaghat district, the Barak in Cachar and Karimganj districts, the Katakhal in Hailakandi district and the Kushiyara in Karimganj district are flowing above their danger levels.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force are conducting search and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas. Around 420 people who were stranded have been rescued from the flood-hit areas of Karimganj, Hailakandi, Cachar and Golaghat districts, according to The Assam Tribune.
