Maharashtra: Three children die of suspected food poisoning in Raigad district
Nineteen of the 61 people who complained of symptoms after a village function are still undergoing treatment.
Three children died of suspected food poisoning after eating food served at a village event in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Monday night. Nineteen of the 61 people who fell ill after the meal are being treated at hospitals in Raigad and Navi Mumbai, police said. One of them is in a critical condition.
A resident of Raigad’s Mahad village had organised a lunch party at his home on Monday. “People who consumed lunch did not have any symptoms,” Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar told Scroll.in. “Only those who had the food in the evening developed severe symptoms.”
One of the children who died was seven years old, another 12 and the third child was 13 years old.
Around 100-120 people had attended the party. Police have filed a case of accidental death. They are investigating whether the children died of food poisoning. The Food and Drug Administration has collected food samples.
