Mumbai: Railway Protection Force constable suspended for allegedly molesting commuter
Police said Rajesh Jahangir claimed he was sleeping and did not realise he had touched the woman.
Authorities of the Railway Protection Force suspended a constable for allegedly molesting a woman at Kalyan railway station in Mumbai on Tuesday night, PTI reported on Thursday.
In a video circulated on social media, constable Rajesh Jahangir is seen touching a woman sitting next to him at the Kalyan railway station. A man sitting next to the constable slapped him, leading to more commuters confronting him. “As soon as we saw the video, we conducted an inquiry and immediately suspended the constable,” Divisional Commissioner of Central Railways Sachin Bhalode told NDTV.
Senior inspector of Government Railway Police (Kalyan) Dinkar Pringle said during questioning Jahangir claimed he was sleeping and didn’t realise that he had touched the woman. “The video clearly shows him trying to touch the woman,” said Pringle, according to the Hindustan Times. “He has been suspended now. He will remain suspended till further investigation.”
Bhalode said neither the woman nor witnesses have filed a complaint. An inquiry has been initiated against Jahangir. He has been serving in the Railway Protection Force for the past 11 years.
