A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA broke down in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday, alleging that the police were harassing her and her family at the behest of a minister from her own party, PTI reported. Neelam Mishra, a legislator from Simaria constituency, also said she will not contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Mishra said in the Assembly that the Rewa district police were trying to frame her and her family members in false cases, and sought security cover. She said they were doing this under the influence of a “local minister”. She mentioned Mining and Industry Minister Rajendra Shukla while talking to reporters outside the House, reported The Indian Express.

“He is taking revenge because I had raised the issue of illegal mining,” she claimed in the Assembly.

Speaker Sitasharan Sharma asked Home Minister Bhupendra Singh to reply to the allegations. The minister assured security for her and her family.

Shukla denied the allegations and said Mishra was “preparing ground” to switch loyalty to the Congress. Mishra’s husband Abhay Mishra joined the Congress a few months ago.
