Telangana Police filed a case against the upcoming film Satyamev Jayate on Monday based on a complaint that it hurt religious sentiments, ANI reported. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Minority Morcha General Secretary Syed Ali Jaffry had lodged the complaint at the Dabeerpura police station in Hyderabad on Sunday, The Hindu reported.

According to the complaint, the film’s trailer showed a “maatam” or mourning scene which purportedly hurts the religious sentiments of the Shia community.

The police have registered a case against the filmmakers under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (outraging religious feelings) and sections under the Cinematography Act, Dabeerpura Inspector D Venkanna Naik told The Hindu.

The film features actor John Abraham and has been written and directed by Milap Zaveri and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani. It is scheduled to be released on August 15.
