Hyderabad: Four-month-old infant dies after developing breathing problems onboard IndiGo flight
The police registered a case under the Code of Criminal Procedure after the child died.
A four-month-old died after developing breathing problems on an IndiGo flight to Patna on Tuesday. The child died at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, PTI reported.
IndiGo crew members said the Bengaluru-Patna flight was diverted to Hyderabad after the child developed breathing problems. The crew also called for an ambulance and a doctor at the airport. The baby was rushed to a private hospital on landing, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“IndiGo flight 6E 897 operating from Bengaluru to Patna was diverted to Hyderabad due to a medical case this morning,” according to IndiGo’s statement. “The crew, along with a doctor onboard, attended to an infant. After landing, the infant was immediately rushed to the hospital, accompanied by an IndiGo staff member. Unfortunately, the infant died.”
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police Sub-Inspector Venkateswarulu told The Times of India that the flight took off from Bengaluru at 6.09 am, and 90 minutes later, was diverted to Hyderabad airport. The police registered a case under the Code of Criminal Procedure after the child died.
“The baby was brought to the emergency room of the Apollo clinic at the airport at 7.45 am,” sources at the hospital told the daily. On examination, doctors confirmed that he was brought dead. While the actual cause of his death is not known, doctors noticed a slight bleeding from his nose.”
