Chhattisgarh Governor Balram Das Tandon died at Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur on Tuesday, reported ANI. He was 90.

Tandon was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening after he complained of uneasiness. He was put on life support at the hospital’s intensive care unit, his secretary had told PTI.

Tandon was one of the founding members of the Jan Sangh. He was jailed from 1975 to 1977 during the Emergency. He has earlier been a six-time member of the Punjab Assembly, and also served as the state’s deputy chief minister from 1969 to 1970.

Tandon was named the governor of Chhattisgarh in July 2014.

Madhya Pradesh governor to hold additional charge

Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel will hold additional charge of Chhattisgarh, PTI reported on Tuesday evening. An unidentified Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said Patel will hold additional charge until a new governor is appointed for Chhattisgarh.
