Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha will now open on July 21 instead of July 28. The promotion up the calendar spares the women’s empowerment movie a clash with Anees Bazmee’s comedy Mubarakan, starring Anil Kapoor and his nephew Arjun Kapoor. Meanwhile, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi, starring Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana, has moved to August 18.

Lipstick Under My Burkha recently emerged triumphant after a highly publicised battle with the Central Board of Film Certification. Initially denied clearance because of its explicit content (the film was deemed “lady oriented, a fantasy above life”). The Prakash Jha production moved the CBFC’s topmost body of appeal, the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal. The CBFC was directed to certify the film, which it did with an Adults only certificate and several cuts, including a reduction in the duration of lovemaking scenes. The movie’s cast includes Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sensharma, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur. It will be distributed by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms.
