Actor and comedian Vir Das will play the lead role in the American television series In Theory, Mumbai Mirror reported. The show will reportedly feature Das as Jazz, a mathematician-turned-radio-jockey who moves from Mumbai to a small Midwestern college town and becomes preoccupied with completing his deceased father’s unfinished work.

Written by Das and Chris Case, the show will be primarily shot in the United States of America.

“I wanted a story that represented the brand of comedy one is putting out into the world today and this seemed like the perfect universe,” Das told Mumbai Mirror. “To lend a genuine Indian perspective to comedy from India in an American setting is the focus of the show. I’ve received a fantastic response for my online comedy special and this seemed like the next logical step.”

In April, Das appeared in Abroad Understanding, Netflix’s first Indian comedy special. He made his debut on late night American TV with a guest appearance on the talk show Conan, hosted by Conan O’Brien.
