The full-fledged trailer of Pa Ranjith’s Tamil movie Kaala, starring Rajinikanth as a slumlord in Mumbai’s Dharavi neighbourhood, was released on Monday evening. The movie, Ranjith’s second collaboration with Rajinikanth after Kabali (2016), revolves around the character of Kaala Karikaalan, a Robin Hood-esque figure who fights for the rights of his people and takes on a politician played by Nana Patekar. The soundtrack has been composed by Santhosh Narayanan.

The trailer contains such declarations from Kaala as “This body is our only weapon, we’ll make sure the world knows that. Gather everybody!” and “Is land a right for you? For us, land is life itself.”

The cast includes Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil and Samuthirakani. Kaala will also be released in Telugu and Hindi on June 7. The Hindi title is Kaala Karikaalan with the subtitle ‘The King of Dharavi’.
