Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer Veere Di Wedding will be banned in Pakistan due to “vulgarity and language and also theme”, said a report in the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

“The censor board held a meeting and watched the film and have decided that it is not fit for screening in Pakistan,” an anonymous source told Dawn.

Shashanka Ghosh’s film, also starring Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania, is about the friendship between four women, which is tested when one of them decides to get married. According to a source who spoke to The Express Tribune, the members of the Central Board of Film Censors Islamabad were shocked by the film’s sexual content.

Veere Di Wedding was screened before the full board and all members were surprised to see such content being displayed,” the source told The Express Tribune. “This film is not acceptable in our society due to its vulgarity and sexual dialogues spoken by the four girls and so, we decided to ban it.” According to the report, the film was initially cleared with a few cuts by the Sindh and Punjab censor board, but the clearance was later revoked.

Produced by Balaji Telefilms, Anil Kapoor Films & Communication Network, and Saffron Broadcast & Media, the female buddy film will be released in India on June 1 with an adults only certificate.
