Tamil director Shankar has tweeted out the release date of his highly anticipated science fiction film 2.0, starring Rajinikanth, Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar. The movie will be released on November 29.
The announcement puts an end of wild speculation about the fate of the sequel to Shankar’s Enthiran (2010). Among the rumours surrounding the Lyca Productions project, which has missed its release date on numerous occasions, were that it had been shelved or was going to be only in 2019 because of the extent of the visual effects involved.
2.0 sees Rajinikanth reprise his role as Chitti, the humanoid robot created by scientist Vaseegaran (also played by Rajinikanth). In Enthiran, Chitti goes rogue after he falls in love with Vaseegaran’s girlfriend (Aishwarya Rai).
In the sequel, Chitti takes on Akshay Kumar’s antagonist, who resembles a cross between a bird and a man. The score is by AR Rahman.
The movie marks Rajinikanth’s second release in 2018 after Pa Ranjith’s Kaala. 2.0 is expected to be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, like Enthiran. Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, starring Sara Ali Khan in her debut role and Sushant Singh Rajput, will be released a day later, on November 30.
