The teaser for Rahi Barve’s horror thriller Tumbbad is out. Starring Sohum Shah (Ship Of Theseus), the October 12 release tells the story of a god named Hastar, the first child of mother goddess Devi. Hastar was born when the universe began, Shah’s character says in the teaser. But centuries have passed and Hastar has been asleep on earth.
“One day, our ancestors finally woke him up and built a temple in his name.”
“Why did they even wake him up?,” asks a little child accompanying Shah.
“Because his curse is our blessing,” he replies as the sky thunders. “Don’t worry, I’m not trying to scare you. Just preparing you for Tumbbad.”
Tumbbad is the name of a fictitious village somewhere near Pune and the story revolves around three generations of a Brahmin family.
Presented by Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions and Eros International, the movie has been in the making for six years. It will be premiered at the Film Critics’ Week section at the Venice Film Festival. Adesh Prasad has co-directed the film and Anand Gandhi is the film’s executive producer and creative director. The songs have been composed by Ajay-Atul.
The film will also be released in Tamil and Telugu.
