The public resort to mob violence and vigilante justice when they lose faith in the judiciary. That's in theory. In India, it seems they do it no matter what.

Now, it seems lawmakers are doing it too. In an incident caught on camera, a Maharashtra MLA, the Nationalist Congress Party's Jitendra Awhad, can be seen asking a young woman to slap her "stalker" in his office in Thane, Mumbai.

Awhad claimed to have received many complaints from the woman before he called both the alleged stalker and her to his office, where he encouraged her to teach him a lesson. And as evidence, he even made sure that a video was shot of the event. It shows her doing just what she suggested.

Awhad, a legislator from the Kalwa-Mumbra area, later said that he had "no regrets", adding, "If the media thinks I have committed a crime, hang me."
