Watch: Ninety-nine-year-old Australian swimmer became the oldest person to earn two world records
You’re never too old to beat everyone else in the world.
George Corones is a 99-year-old man who enjoys swimming, so much so that he was determined to break a world record even at this age. The man who quit swimming at the beginning of the Second World War resumed his passion at the age of 80, telling Guardian Australia, that he’s doing it to be “unimpressed with himself”.
Corones broke the record for swimming in the age group of 100 to 104.
Now, as the crowd cheered him on, he dived confidently into the water and swam like a pro without pausing for breath. “All I can say is the public have amazed me,” he said. “They’ve overwhelmed me and they’ve been overly generous in their response to what has happened. I certainly didn’t anticipate any of this.
