Men’s singles: It was 11-11 and then LZJ unleashed a string of winners to make it 20-11 and earn 9 match points. Needed just one to finish it off and set up a semi-final against India’s Lakshya Sen. A crazy match if there ever was one...

Men’s singles: Only one point in this. LZJ leads 11-10 at the interval but Momota will now move back to his preferred end.

Men’s singles: Momota magic! He was trailing 3-9... then he turned on the class and took the second game 21-13. Starting moving faster and attacking more.

Men’s singles: Momota levels things at 13-13. He was six points adrift earlier in the game.

Men’s singles: Better from Momota but LZJ takes a three-point advantage into the interval.

Men’s singles: LZJ, the defending champion, takes the first game 21-7 in just 14 minutes.

Q: How did you feel coming into the big tournament like this?

Jolly: First, I didn’t think we would get entry...

Gayatri: ...but we were happy that we would have the opportunity to play the world’s top players.

Q: Do you feel that now you are in the semis, there might be more expectation?

Gayatri: Definitely yes. But we don’t feel the pressure. We just have to give it our best. Yes, that’s it... just give it our best.

Q: Did you know much about their game? How did you prep?

Treesa: They are good attacking players we know but we didn’t plan that much. We played our best.

The semi-finalists speak...

Treesa Jolly: We don’t have pressure. That is the main thing. We just want to give it our best.

Gayatri Gopichand: We lost the first set, in the second set... we were down 18-20 but we just felt we have to fight. Just one point at a time.

Women’s doubles: Treesa paired up with Gayatri only at the start of January 2021 and it sure is going well. The responsibilities are divided well. Treesa unleashes the big smashes and Gayatri picks off everything at the net. Perhaps the fact that their opponents wouldn’t know much about them also helps.

Vinayakk Mohanarangan: Not much was made of their win against the Olympic champs y’day even though they played really well because of an injury to Rahayu. But this is an EPIC WIN. They have had their moments recently. Impressed at Uber Cup against Thailand last year, had to miss out at India Open due to Covid-19, but were brilliant at Syed Modi with two big wins on their way to the final, then thoroughly dominated the field as they should have in Odisha and now.... All England Open semifinalists.

Women’s doubles: Gayatri-Treesa vs Lee-Shin, 14-21, 22-20, 21-15: Gayatri and Treesa have done it! They have beaten the second seeds, who were also silver medallists at the Worlds. The Korean pair just couldn’t handle Treesa’s smashes. Big, big win!

Women’s doubles: Gayatri-Treesa vs Lee-Shin, 14-21, 22-20, 20-14: Six match points!

Women’s doubles: Gayatri-Treesa vs Lee-Shin, 14-21, 22-20, 18-13: Nerves will start to become a factor as well.

Men’s doubles, Chirag-Satwik vs Gideon-Sukamuljo - 22-24, 17-21: The Minions were given a mighty scare by the Indians in the first game but Satwik-Chirag weren’t able to close it out. In the end, the guile and the class of the Minions shone through. The H2H record now stands at 11-0.
