There is just something about Mumbai batsmen and their capacity to pile up runs. The city has something new to celebrate as their latest cricketing prodigy, 15-year-old Pranav Dhanawpade, broke all manners of records to become the first player in any form of cricket to breach the individual thousand run mark in an inter-school game.
Dhanawade had already broken the record for the highest ever individual score on Monday when he reached 629, overtaking AEJ Collins' 628, a record that had been set 117 years back. After finishing the day unbeaten on 652 off just 199 balls, he resumed on Monday and soon went on to breach the four figure mark, the first time it has ever happen in any form of cricket, finishing at 1009 not out.
An IndianExpress report from Monday quoted Dhanawade's father, an autorickshaw driver, saying that it would be a dream come true for him if his son was selected for the Mumbai U16 team.
It a unfulfilled dream. I want my son to become a great cricketer. He has proved that he has the talent today. Cricket is not an easy sport and expensive too. I spent extra hours driving an autorickshaw in order to afford the cricket gear for my son
The Indian Twitterati soon woke up to Dhanawade's massive achievements and started celebrating it, like only they can:
