Brazil thrashed South Africa 5-1 in the final of the BRICS Under-17 football tournament at the Nehru Stadium in Goa on Saturday.

Brazil were clear favourites to win the tournament from the start and were on target from the word go. They were in sublime form and were constantly creating space and going for goal.

Paulo Henrique Sampaio Filho opened the scoring for Brazil in the 24th minute with Vinicuis Jose paixo de Oliveira Junior making it 2-0. Victor Gabriel Moura de Oliveira scored a brace while Alan de Sourza Guimaraes scored the fifth in injury time. South Africa pulled one back through S'miso Bophela in the 89th minute. Brazil, who beat South Africa 3-0 in the league stage, were ruthless in their approach and were nothing short of a nightmare for the South African defence.

Russia come third

Russia came from behind to beat China 2-1 in the third place playoff on Saturday. China got the lead via penalty in the 34th minute with Tao Qianglong scoring from the spot. However, Koleshichenko Kirill equalised in the 69th minute before substitute Chelidze Georgy scored the winner in the 84th minute.
