India Under-17 striker Aman Chetri has ruled himself out for the upcoming World Cup to be played in India from October 6. In a now-deleted Instagram post, the forward from Guwahati had stated that he had failed to recover from an injury sustained earlier this year and that the team doctors had advised him against playing the tournament.

Chetri, handed the number 9 shirt for the Under-17 team, is considered one of the brightest talents and was expected to lead the attack on home turf. Sharing a last name with India’s senior men’s team captain, Aman along with Komal Thatal played for the team up front in the AFC Under-16 Championships in Goa.

The striker was supposed to rejoin the team and had last month even posted on Facebook that he would be reuniting with the team.

With Chetri out of the running, Thatal, Nongdamba Naorem, Shubham Sarangi and Rahul KP are the other forwards in the squad. India play their first game against the United States on opening day.

Oh boy! How badly I miss those days!
