Eight killed in rain-related incidents as heavy showers lash Delhi
The national capital has received over 100 mm of rain since Friday night.

Eight persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Delhi on Saturday as heavy showers lashed the city, the Hindustan Times reported.
Seven persons, including two children, died when a shrine wall collapsed onto shanties in Jaitpur area of South Delhi, police said. In the Khera Khurd area of Narela, a boy drowned after falling into an open drain.
Delhi recorded 78.7 mm of rain in 24 hours, with 26 mm falling between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Saturday, the newspaper reported. Since Friday night, the total rainfall has been 104.7 mm.
The downpour caused widespread disruption. More than 300 flights were delayed, with departures from Delhi airport running an average of 15 minutes late and arrivals delayed by around five minutes, according to Flightradar.
While airlines issued advisories asking passengers to check their flight status in advance, the airport said operations were normal, the Hindustan Times reported.
In Old Delhi’s Ballimaran, a two-storey building collapsed, though no casualties were reported.
In South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, part of a footpath near the Masoodpur flyover caved in at a Metro construction site. No injuries were reported.
However, the road below was barricaded and traffic in the area will remain diverted for the next few days, the newspaper quoted a traffic police official as saying.
