Government brushes off Moody's report as opinion of 'junior analyst'
The Centre also criticised certain sections of the media for 'irresponsible and distorted reporting'.
The government on Wednesday dismissed a recent report quoted to risk management firm Moody's Analytics that said the Centre risks losing credibility. The report, released on Friday, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to rein in his party members or face losing credibility both at home and abroad. It said the "government hasn’t helped itself" of late, with its leaders making many controversial comments about beef-eating, Dalit killings and other polarising topics.
The government dismissed the report, saying it was the personal opinion of a junior analyst which was passed off as a commentary on India. It also criticised "certain sections of the media" for "irresponsible and distorted reporting", adding that the media had not informed the readers of the difference between Moody's Analytics and Moody's Investor Services. The former is a data and analytics firm, while the latter provides ratings services, it said.
